The three hail entries, in 2000, 2008 and 2010, give sizes of three quarters of an inch, three quarters of an inch and one inch. None of the 17 narratives uses the word roof, and none names a membrane. The count is what forecasters and spotters logged, not how often a Lorton roof leaks.

A post-storm habit, not a material choice
The objects in these entries are trees, wires and cars. A limb landing on a flat roof is an impact and a debris problem before it is a material problem, so clearing drains and edges and looking after wind is what the record backs.

Not from the color. White sheet can be TPO, PVC or EPDM. TPO is a thermoplastic, so its seams are fused with hot air.
